I’m a Data Scientist with a unique insight for developing solutions by utilising my Geospatial Engineering skills. I’ve recently changed my career direction from GIS to Data Science. The transferable skills that I bring are Programming, Quantitative Analysis, Product Intuition, Communication and Teamwork, which I'll explain below.Programming:Having a strong background in programming is essential, when dealing with large datasets on a daily basis. I have developed tools that allow me to provide solutions to complex engineering problems. Of the tools that I’ve developed, the one generates feature pipelines for determining hydrological analysis.Quantitative Analysis:The geoHydro package derives hydrological derivatives from complex terrain models using various flow routing algorithms. The interdependency of the intermediate derived results can lead to error propagation, which needs to be quantified, as the results are used for engineering design of structures. I have recently been involved in machine learning projects that included prototyping, testing assumptions, selecting and creating features, as well as identifying strengths and opportunities within the engineering industry.Product Intuition:The product intuition that I have gained within the tools that I have developed, has allowed me to test hypotheses such as using different flow routing algorithms, defining accuracy metrics, debugging analysis results, while coming up with new ideas. Communication:As a consultant and technical specialist, I communicate my insights, in a clear and concise manner to my clients, so that they can be acted upon. I make use of data visualisation and presentations to convey complex results or findings.Teamwork:My recent role as team lead within a machine learning project entailed the development of a road surface detection model. Our project was chosen by Aurecon Exemplar, where I attend a conference on computational design at the UNSW, Sydney.
