I created a web system using an SQL Server database for temporary staff engagements on the College’s intranet. This required the creation of tables and views in SQL Server, writing ASP.NET / VB.NET modules for data display and manipulation.

Analysed, assessed and amended an Access system for linking to the in-house accounting system and generally upgraded for changes in business practices. This required the creation and updating of forms, tables, queries and reports.

Analysed and assessed a VB6 system for inclusion into a new VB.net system as part of a contract team. This required a VB6 program to extract statement types such as stored procedures, joins and table from the code of programs and DLLs. This tab delimited text output was displayed in Excel spreadsheets for further analysis.

Writing and maintaining VBA scripts in Excel workbooks.Wrote an extraction program to create workbooks and send them to users by email. This process ran in less than an hour, replacing a manual system that took four man-days to complete.Wrote a system to document the courses that members of the department had taken and need to take to stay qualified for their positions.Also advised other members of the team on Excel VBA on an ad hoc basis.Created a Gantt chart to illustrate the progress of school construction in the priority school building programme.

• Analysed a list of 161 programs for amendment to the Mortgage Change Directive. Wrote a résumé describing the salient points of the directive to discuss with the business users of the components. • Wrote an Excel VBA program for extracting and reformatting data from an Access database. This was fed into a Word mail-merge for statements to account holders and other interested parties.• Required knowledge of VBA / Excel 2007 / Access 2007, VB.NET, SQL Server TRANSACT-SQL, VB6 development and IBM mainframe JCL.• Completed courses to comply with all required standards regarding TSB Security (ITEC 2), Data Protection Act (DPA), Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and Basel II.

Temporally replacing a permanent member of staff, this contract was mainly running reports and creating new reports for users on an ad-hoc basis. Entirely Excel VBA, extracting and reformatting data for internal users and external clients. The entire system is due to be replaced by another branch of the company in India.

This was working on the Projects Team, Product Systems, Buyers’ Range Plan, a large program written in VB6 that made extensive use of TrueGrid70. My main task was to enhance the system and remove bugs for this leading global manufacturer and retailer of fashion garments. I also had to test some modules by attaching VB.NET functions.

Working in a team of seven for this leading global provider of information for the energy, petrochemicals, metals and agriculture markets, I was re-writing and converting a system in Excel from an in-house system. Programming in VBA on Excel spreadsheets and Access databases. I wrote an add-in tool and other modules that greatly enhanced the speed and accuracy of the conversion system.

Developed an image processing system for cell recognition and counting. This highly flexible system has been used by medical researchers for processing data for brain scanning on a number of medical papers.

•Worked to very tight deadlines to develop and test the specified functionality using Excel/VBA.•Updated and tested the Bespoke Offers Excel spreadsheet for Barclays Bank. This worksheet was modified and then re-worked twice for the user as requirements evolved. This involved creating dropdowns and other components for user selection with updating through VBA modules.

This was in the Tactical Business Intelligence team working on tactical tools in a team of developers working for this large European bank, providing global maintenance support (on a shift-basis) as well as developing new functionality, using VBA, VB6, Excel, SQL Server, Access and DB2.Developed an Excel-based bulk upload program to replace a manual data entry process for processing financial transactions. This was developed using Attachmate terminal emulation software to first validate the data and then upload it to the mainframe database (CICS DB2).Maintained existing systems and developed solutions using a RAD approach and maintained source control using SourceSafe.Worked through the full project life cycle and worked with a range of stakeholders including analysts, testers and end users.

Worked for this small charity to develop a students records system, encompassing a wide range of functionality including maintenance of all student activity and progress, as well as detailed financial reports required by local authorities and other agencies.Gathered the user-requirements for the system and completed the project from initial analysis through to testing and user-training.Used an Access-based approach, with Excel and Word templates, providing a mechanism for standardised and validated data entry.

VB.NET, SQL Server, QTP, Windows XP, VBA, Access, Word, Excel• Wrote and maintained test scripts using QTP and VBA, raising errors through AdminiTrack. These scripts were run daily to ensure the system had not developed faults from new implementations from the previous day. Reports were extracted from QTP into Excel using VBA.• Designed and created a system that uploaded files of corporate actions, stock prices and rates of exchange sent to the company daily. The corporate actions were passed in a mainframe-style flat file, the others as comma delimited files.• At the start of the project there were a lot of data errors in the bulk data upload for the historical data. This led to a major data-cleaning exercise in co-operation with the data supplier before loading could be progressed.• The data was extracted using the VB.NET data reader and then stored on a SQL Server database, where it was then validated. Any errors were written to a separate table. When valid, the data was then loaded into the main database and used to update the live system.• This gave users a stable system for checking errors and importing data for their daily updates.Other duties:• A background daily task of watching over the Australian overnight batch system and reporting any problems that arose.

Joined Præmium in the early development (VB.NET) of a key product for portfolio management, used by financial advisers and wealth managers, providing consolidated portfolio reporting and analysis tools. Liaised with data providers to improve the data quality for uploads and developed efficient data extraction and upload routines. Developed the system using a modular approach which enabled simple configuration and bespoke client branding of the core-system. Designed and developed testing scripts (QTP/VBA) to provide automated testing and error reporting, in order to fully test new updates prior to release.

Carried out development (VB6, VB.NET, Access, SQL Server) on SSET (School Self-Evaluation Tracker) used by local authorities in the area of education and target tracking.Migrated the system from a legacy VB/FoxPro system to VB.NET and SQL Server; developed export / import routines for the data migration.Designed and developed new screen designs and implemented additional validation which provided local authorities with a standard set of responses and reports.Ensured the system was compatible with a range of Windows platforms, from Win98 to XP Professional.Added additional functionality to enhance the system for use by secondary schools

Developed mainframe applications (Cobol2, CICS, VSAM, DB2, MVS) during the RBS/NatWest merger.Designed and developed data extraction and formatting routines ensuring data was validated and transferred to the third party (BACS). This batch upload replaced a manual tape approach and was a pilot project in the development of similar automated interfaces.Worked on several maintenance projects in relation to Year 2000.
