For the last 29 years I have worked with vulnerable people empowering them to build more stable and sustainable futures. Why me * My lifelong passion for helping people help themselves is informed by my lived experience of unemployment and homelessness. I believe the key is to give individuals a hand up not a hand out, I work with people facing adversity, homelessness and unemployment, I endeavour to give people the motivation and encouragement to take control of their lives and make positive choices. I also believe the change for good in our society can be achieved when communities work together be they charities, social enterprises or a community interest companies. Together we are stronger. Consulting and Mentoring * I have spent nearly 30 years on the frontline, many of them as a key driver in our ‘family firm’ The Big Issue, the largest social business worldwide, putting £100m in the pockets of the homeless and vulnerable since 1991. Now I use my extensive knowledge and specialist skills to support organisations, groups, charities and government departments in addressing homelessness and unemployment through self-help, social trading and business solutions.Public Speaking * My goal is to raise awareness and inspire people across the UK to develop and support social enterprise and work collaboratively with charities and community interest companies.
