I am passionate about using research to help communities, practitioners, and policymakers build systems and programs that support healthy development and well-being for children and families, especially those that have been traditionally underserved or marginalized. During graduate school, I studied how children’s emotion and self-regulation contributed to the development of conduct problems and aggression. After completing my PhD, I wanted to do more to help children and families directly, so I joined the Duke Center for Child and Family Policy as a research scientist. At Duke, I have used my scientific expertise to help community partners in Guilford County, North Carolina build and evaluate a universal system of care for families that provides individualized support and connection to community resources throughout the prenatal and early childhood periods. I help clients develop, implement, and improve programs; guide their decisions to promote approaches and programs that will have the greatest impacts; and use rigorous and equitable evaluation methods to ensure their programs are evidence-based and effective. My expertise in child development, research methods, and quantitative analysis serves clients’ needs across community, healthcare, and educational contexts. I have excellent communication skills for sharing complex scientific information clearly and practically, allowing me to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams of fellow researchers, community partners, practitioners, funders, and policymakers. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my partner and our dog, playing and watching sports (especially soccer), and traveling.
