As a senior sustaining engineer working in the Operations department, I oversee maintenance, qualification and process activities for equipment on the production line. This, coupled with a specialization in CNC machine programming and process improvement, allows me to fill a pivotal role as a key operations contributor. I am also a product focus team (PFT) member allowing me to use my skill set to drive process improvement to improve yield, throughput, and drive down costs. On the PFT I am serving as the operations mechanical member, able to make physical improvements to line function and efficiency where the process and data analysts indicate critical improvements need to be made. It truly is a multifaceted role in an evolving position as the company grows and develops its manufacturing capability.

As a senior engineer at Taylor Guitars, I played many roles. Design, tooling, materials analysis, manufacturing processes and operations, along with all of the supporting documentation, fell under my purvue. My main function was to take the luthier's prototypes and work them into a factory-friendly format. This included the development of tooling and fixtures for each process that product would go through in production. I would then work with supervisors and operators on the factory floor to implement the tooling and bring the processes online. All solid models I created in Solidworks, while any toolpath programming was from MasterCAM. I also prepared solid models for tooling programmers and detailed drawings with bills of materials for fabrication; both in the tooling machine shop as well as for off-site vendors.This position also required continuous improvement of existing processes and operations for two factories in El Cajon, CA and Tecate, Mexico. Each operation was evaluated as it was outgrown. The effort was often focused on formalizing low quantity or temporary solutions that needed to be upgraded to production quality equipment and processes.An additional element of this position had me researching and implementing new methods of manufacturing. I was to improve or add to factory automation in order to bolster high volume production. This was a broad-scoped endeavor which covered everything from 3-axis vertical CNC machining centers and automated fabric cutters to fixturing and cell setup for 6-axis robotic machines.During my tenure at Taylor Guitars, they grew from $80 million/year to over $110 million/year, increasing production capacity by 75%. I played a critical role in introducing more than a dozen new products, driving process improvements in operations from development through shipping. When this growth caused the engineering group to nearly triple in size, I was also able to serve as both peer and mentor for new hires.

My role at California Motors was focused on hybrid electric vehicle development. I worked on the development of hardware components and systems including power train development, cooling circuits, canopy and door design, battery integration, suspension, steering linkage and armor plated chassis design.The focus of my work was on an armored vehicle project. All aspects of prototype production took place in a small shop with a talented crew of fabricators and machinists. I was responsible for delivering designs complete with assembly instructions and design intent included.
