I was assistant to the forester at the Mansfield office for the summer, during my university break. My work involved forestry inventory of native forests after post-harvesting treatment, liaisons with forestry contractors at logging coupes, assessment of logs at mills, and preparing a public survey regarding the general understanding of forest operations and practices.

Beerburrum, Queensland

I was part of the forest inventory team in the pine plantations of South-East Queensland for my summer holidays from university studies. The work largely involved the measurement and marking of pine forests prior to logging operations. I was part of an experienced team and was responsible for measuring tree heights, stocking and diameters. I also was involved in the survey of regeneration and spent time in the fire watch towers.I had exposure to native forestry practices by spending a week with the Forester in charge, including some agro-forestry practices and operations.
