My project is to develop an energy tradding platform for a client. Being a greenfield project, we are building up the codebase from scratch, which gives me the opportunity to be responsible for large areas of the codebase, and be involved in some key decisions early on. I have primarily worked in the frontend, building complex data tables using React.The biggest new learning is how to operate in a large team, including those from Scott Logic, as well as client developers and designers. The biggest challenge is to keep a holistic view of progress, and as well keep track of who has context on what parts of the project / codebase!

My main project for this period has been a learning game about how prompt injection can be used against generative AI systems, and how to prevent it. I have strengthened my front-end and backend knowledge, with a particular focus on clean code and accessibility, and learned how to adapt to fit into a new team with fresh people and ways of working.This time I stayed mostly within backend and frontend development, taking a particular interest in maintainability, readability and refactoring legacy code which had become a clunky as the project had grown.That project is open source: https://github.com/ScottLogic/prompt-injection

# Individual TrainingReally excited for this graduate position. So far I've really enjoyed getting acquainted with the different frameworks and technologies that form the full stack of web applications. I'm blown away by the difference between robust 'Software Engineering' and casual university programming!# Graduate Project:Given the unspecialised nature of the team, we all got to try our hand at the full stack, from backend (Java, Springboot) and front end (React, Typescript) to deployment and infrastructure (AWS, Azure devops, liquibase, terraform) and testing (Jest, Playwright)Towards the end of the project, I also took up some slack with managing the project, running meetings, writing and refining tickets.

Each week I led groups of second year students through tutorial worksheets, explaining concepts and helping students with the problems. We explored a range of topics within Computer Science including machine learning, project management, algorithms and more.

At this 8 week summer placement I worked with a partner to design and develop a small 3D geospacial data-visualisation app from scratch.

Alcove provides accessible smart devices to adults in care. I joined this small enterprise during the early reign of Covid-19, and as the company scaled to meet the new demands, I helped organise and analyse management information in excel (with the help of VBA), migrate information over to Salesforce and, towards the end of my placement, built a small pipeline in Python to analyse user data to predict health problems.
