Continuous interactions with China based PE teams (JDSU and CM). Regular visits to CM in China for internal audits, line improvements, capacity ramp-up and customer spec implementation. Major Highlights:• Finalizing customer specifications for several tier-1 submarine customers using extensive data analysis, technical negotiations and defining special test requirements. Enabling multi-million dollar revenue increase.• Driving a major Product Change Notification to acceptance with existing and potential customers.

Product EngineerMember of the PIC R&D new technology development group. Responsible for maintaining the PIC 10-channel QPSK transmitter product specification. Performing yield analysis across departments from PIC through Modules to System integration. Driving PIC spec adjustments by overall yield optimization. Extensive use of JMP analysis for performance DVT and FMA. Responsible for device selection for PIC and Module DVT and GR qualification.

Product Engineering ManagerLeading a team of engineers in the highly successful development of the company’s key product, enabling double-digit quarterly growth in global sales. Defining and managing the development of a Plug-and-play module platform incorporating the butterfly-packaged ECL semiconductor laser for the sensing market. Managing all engineering aspects in an NPI-structured development: laser characterization, test optimization, module electronics, e/o, thermal and mechanical design, embedded firmware and user interface definition, cost management and yield improvement, production hand-over, customer design-ins and vendor interactions. Reporting to CEO.

Engineering Project Leader for JDSU’s 2.5 and 10 Gb/s Cooled TOSA programs. Managed the conception, planning, specification, design and engineering, validation, Telcordia qualification and international transfer of 10Gb/s EML Cooled TOSA platform in NPI-controlled projects. Supervised 6-member China-based engineering team charged with administering all product assembly processes and tests for the 10Gb/s Cooled TOSA, including the newly developed Active Lens Align tool. Monitor ongoing results and progress through daily emails, weekly conference calls and quarterly on-site visits.

Project lead for 10Gb/s EML chip and butterfly package in a 10-member team of engineers and technicians. Identified and eliminated potential risks. Designed and developed Small Form Factor Tunable Transmitter Module as the successful project lead for module integration, module test and embedded software. Major contributions to the TunableMSA document announced in November 2002. Selected vital electronic components necessary for product creation and coordinated raw material delivery schedules, fulfilling client specifications for prototypes. Launched 10Gb/s testing as part of production line.

Constructed one of the first 10Gb/s prototype optical receivers in the world, advancing corporation to the forefront of high-speed laser development.Conducted and presented research on real world applications of Wavelength Tunable DBR laser characteristics. Built hardware and created embedded software for a European demonstrator using Coherent Optical Detection with wavelength tunability. Successfully showcased its use during 3 large exhibitions.
