The mission of Springmatter is to “start something meaningful.” Fittingly, our company established the Springmatter Fund to be intentional about our philanthropy. Especially meaningful to Springmatter is support for educational programming as well as efforts to assist often marginalized populations—particularly efforts promoting equity and equality for transgender and gender expansive individuals and those on the autism spectrum. The unifying concept for these areas of focus is to provide hope for young people that companies will welcome them, even if society has not. OptoAtmospherics' product line consists of transformational laser-based atmospheric measurement systems that will greatly improve the accuracy and timeliness of site assessments and improve the efficiency of operational wind farms. Our unique and patented technology allows long-range, volumetric measurement of wind speed, wind direction, density, temperature and even water vapor. Operational wind farms will benefit from real-time measurement and forecasting of winds, with implications for increasing efficiency, reducing maintenance costs, improving turbine placement/upkeep/replacement decisions, and reducing grid integration costs. Our product can also be integrated with a wind turbine to reduce mechanical loading and increase lifetimes. In addition, we offer advanced predictive analysis software that can ingest data from all turbines and predict failures before they occur.

Increasing levels of responsibility from R&D, to Program Management, to Section Head. Performed research and development activities for airborne, ground, and marine-based applications. Technical responsibilities included electrical engineering, optical engineering, mechanical design, and software development. Led the development of a (patented) docking mechanism for an on-orbit, autonomous rendezvous and docking experiment. Created and operated a business unit selling satellite receiving stations internationally.The Environmental Research Institute of Michigan (ERIM) was formerly a not-for-profit R&D organization with roots dating back to the Willow Run Laboratories at the University of Michigan. ERIM is now a part of MDA Information Systems (http://www.mdaus.com/).
