Peter’s major focus in recent years has been the RDTI, ESIC and DGTO. Peter has been involved with policy related matters for the R&D Tax Incentive, including Senate Inquiry submissions and attendance. The RSM Innovation and Incentives team is one of Australia’s largest, with over 50 practitioners across the East and West Coast.Peter solves problems by deeply understanding legislation / available guidance / cases and liaising continuously with key stakeholders (including government lawmakers and administrators) to identify and discuss any blind spots. This approach allows for pragmatic and commercial solutions which deliver optimal outcomes for clients, but also sensible and in line with the principle of “doing the right thing” in the eyes of key stakeholders.In terms of formal qualifications, Peter graduated Macquarie University with a Bachelor of Commerce (Professional Accounting) with a Bachelor of Laws (with honors). Subsequent to this, Peter completed a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney with a Distinction average, focusing mainly on Taxation and Commercial Law related subjects. Peter is a current member of CA ANZ, finishing the program with merits in 2 of 4 subjects (exemption in tax) and completing his Grad Dip in Legal Practice.Peter speaks fluent mandarin and is a key member on the technical committee of the Association of Chinese Accountants Australia (ACAA) and RSM Australia’s China Practice Group (CPG), offering technical support in taxation matters relating to innovation and R&D. Peter has presented and hosted events for ACAA and the RSM CPG all around Australia.Peter has assisted businesses ranging from start-ups to multinationals (all major industries, with a focus on tech and engineering) on innovation funding and taxation related matters. Peter has been actively involved in innovation groups and hubs around Australia.Peter has a passion for supporting CSR initiatives, having been involved with the RSM Australia Engagement Committee and CSR Committee. For the past few years, Peter has been involved with coordinating the Walk For Autism campaign for RSM Australia as a key partner to Aspect.
