My role is to ensure Foundation and Friends builds its support for the vital horticultural, scientific, educational, historical and cultural purposes of the Botanic Gardens in the greater Sydney area. Together with the Board, I lead an organisation that includes 5,000 members and donors, committed corporate partners, a highly engaged volunteer group and a passionate staff team.

As Interim CEO I am undertaking a strategic review of the organisation. This is to ensure Foundation and Friends builds its support for the vital horticultural, scientific, educational, historical and cultural purposes of the Botanic Gardens in the greater Sydney area. Provide organisational development, strategy and leadership consultancy, focused on the third sector and organisations seeking to be more sustainable.

The Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation is the registered charity of The Prince of Wales Hospital. It exists to advance the health of Australians by harnessing the generosity of individuals and organisations to support innovation and excellence in patient care, research, education and health promotion. The aim is to challenge, inspire and engage individuals and organisations to partner with the Foundation to extend the boundaries of healthcare and medical research.

Amnesty International Australia is the domestic arm of the world’s largest community based human rights organisation. A movement of over 300,000 people, Amnesty International Australia has over 100,000 financial contributors and members who are supported by 70 staff and hundreds of volunteers across 7 national offices. Reporting to the National Director, provided performance management for 5 direct reporting managers with 26 staff and numerous volunteers, interns and contractors. Responsible for raising $28 million, with a total expense budget of $14 million. Responsible for people and culture, information systems, finance, budgeting and fundraising.• Helped lead 2 successful organisation redesign processes, responding to the external environment and emerging opportunities.• Successfully implemented an enterprise level customer relationship management system (CRM), achieving stakeholder buy-in and meeting tight timeline and within budget.• Reviewed and renewed finance area, aligning accounting framework to international arm and simplifying organisational budgeting. Greatly improved financial reporting for board, managers and staff.• Finalised Enterprise Agreement negotiations, with improved conditions for flexible working, Indigenous staff and organisational change.• Realigned people and culture area from a transactional function to one that supported managers and a learning culture. Championed inclusion and diversity initiatives.• Working with Board and Audit and Risk Committee, renewed organisational risk framework, including engagement all managers and establishing Board risk appetite statement. • Introduced flexible regular giving product to align with supporter needs and behaviours.• Represented the organisation on international finance and fundraising working groups and negotiated new funding arrangement with International Secretariat.

Reporting to the National Director, provided performance management for 5 direct reports with 21 staff and numerous volunteers, interns and contractors. Effective second in charge, acting as National Director regularly when required and helping shape organisational direction and policy.• Led a significant and innovative growth program for the organisation, more than quadrupling income. Total number of financial supporters has more than doubled to 100,000, with greater numbers engaging in more than one form of activism.• Significantly grew income from high value donors, including establishment of 2020 Council.• Delivered new organisational website (2016), that increased supporter engagement and income. Led the adoption of digital competency across the organisation, empowering staff and activists to engage effectively in this space.• Developed sophisticated tracking and forecasting models for budgeting which set new benchmarks for the organisation.• Mentored management staff that have gone onto to lead fundraising and growth programs at the director level at a number of large NGOs.• Used keen sense of political skills to achieve important cultural change, including; a move from prioritising one off membership to on-going financial contributions through pledging, integrating campaigning and growth programs and building trust and respect for the face-to-face supporter acquisition program.• Founding member of international fundraising management group, where chaired and delivered successful international fundraising skill shares in Europe in 2012 to 2014. Leading member of select international task force of senior global Amnesty International leadership to change the culture of philanthropy within the organisation. Member of global team given oversight of the development of our global campaigns My Body My Rights and Stop Torture.

Reporting to the Board, the position is responsible for the dynamic leadership and management of the organisation. • Supported and successfully restructured the Senior Management Team to ensure better delivery of leadership and direction. Improved staff morale and engagement and aligned teams to renewed strategic plan.• Improved accountability to the Board through new reporting initiatives, enhanced internal communications and consistent analysis of key project and business areas. Instigated strategies to make the role of National Director more visible to the entire staff team.• Represented Amnesty in a wide range of fora, including conferences, international meetings, coalition groups and organisation’s AGM.• Successfully managed positive outcome to legal threat to charitable gift status of Amnesty International in Australia.• Oversaw the senior leadership of priority campaigns, including the award winning Guantanamo Bay campaign and cell tour.

Held numerous positions, titles and portfolios during this period covering the entire range of fundraising and related activities of Amnesty International Australia.Introduction of programs that delivered sustained growth• Responsible for introducing new fundraising initiatives, including the face-to-face pledge acquisition program that was instrumental in removing organisational financial debt and delivering sustainable financial health.• Undertook constant review and renewal of all programs, introducing numerous initiatives and testing programs that resulted in improved performance.
