The University and the College are committed to a Widening Participation agenda and aim to strengthen partnerships between higher education, further education, schools and training providers. Of particular concern is how to raise both the aspirations and attainments of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who are currently under-represented in higher education.

My role involves developing partnerships with target schools/colleges to deliver a programme of progressive outreach activities from Year 9 right through to undergraduate transition support.
I am responsible for planning, devising and delivering targeted interventions and events in support of the governments initiative to double the number of disadvantaged young people entering higher education by 2020. Initiating, developing and maintaining long-medium term relationships with a number of charity, educational and commercial partners has to build a strong portfolio of events and activities that are impactful and cost effective to the organisation(s) involved.

Brighton & Worthing

This exciting role is centered in a fast paced, professional environment working with key stakeholders inside and outside the institution to deliver a range of innovative outreach events, interventions and activities.

The widening participation outreach initiatives at the MET for Undergraduate students include the University Open Days, attendance at school and college events across the country as well as widening participation outreach set out in the institutions Access Agreement.

We collaborate with other key partners towards the governments goals to increase the number of disadvantaged learners in HE by 2020. We fully support and participate in the National Collaborative Outreach Program (NCOP) on the development and delivery WP activity around coastal West Sussex and indeed the ‘greater Brighton’ region.

Greater Brighton Metropolitan College (MET) was created from the merger of City College Brighton and Northbrook College Sussex. It is the college for our City and our region and draws on 150 years of heritage, history and experience. The MET offers a comprehensive range of qualifications for 16 year olds leaving school, full and part time courses for adults, apprenticeships, professional qualifications and university degrees. The MET operates across five campuses in Brighton, Shoreham and Worthing and teaches around 3,500 16-18 year olds, 7,500 adult learners, 1,000 undergraduates and 800 apprentices. More than 1,000 expert staff work with our students to equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to prepare them for the world of work - to encourage, support and inspire them. The MET helps to build the self-belief, confidence and bravery our students need to meet and exceed their aspirations.

Worthing

Fulfilling a cross-college role being required to lead the planning and delivery of Widening Participation activity to support the College’s strategy of engagement and progression and employability as outlined in the Higher Education,14–19 and Adult and Employer Strategies.

This activity includes inbound College visits and school-based activities for a range of age groups from Year 7 to Year 13.

Acting as institutional expert on the delivery of subject enrichment activities in schools and colleges as well as College based activities.

Additionally I am responsible for recruiting and training student ambassadors and for briefing staff who contribute to outreach initiatives.


I ensure that outreach activity is appropriately targeted; that the progress of learners is tracked; that events and programmes are rigorously evaluated; and that activity is tightly focused on work with the highest impact.

Support the Marketing Manager-Student Recruitment in delivering the corporate level marketing and communications campaign to prospective students, as well as the implementation of the marketing plans for the relevant departments within the sport portfolio.

Currently the web officer for the south east group of HELOA.

The South East Group is one of the largest HELOA groups comprising of 15 institutions from across Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

We have nearly 100 members working in admissions, recruitment and marketing. We are bound together by our common role in education liaison activities and promoting entry to all sectors of HE, and ensuring quality of the information and advice which is provided to prospective students, their families and advisers.
