Phillip Hancock is a Boston University alumnus with a deep passion for social studies education. He loves history, geography, economics, political science, and sociology, and shares this excitement with students through his lessons. Phillip grew up in Southern California, in the suburb of Agoura Hills, just north of Los Angeles. He enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program at Agoura High School, which introduced him to many exemplary teachers and instilled him with a strong appreciation for the value of education. Phillip then attended Boston University, navigating the school's rigorous teacher education program. During the experience, he prepared for the challenges of teaching, developing his content knowledge and learning practical skills for the classroom. He obtained a teacher's license in Massachusetts in his final year of undergraduate study, through his student teaching practicum at North Quincy High School. This further developed his confidence in the classroom, and bolstered his classroom management, lesson planning, and curriculum design skills.Yearning to learn and grow further, Phillip enrolled in Boston University's Master of Education program. In this year of study, Phillip reinforced his content knowledge, expanded his perspectives on diversity and justice in education, and broadened his range of skills, taking classes on English education and academic research. He also continued to practice his classroom skills, serving as a long-term substitute teacher for Quincy Public Schools during the course of his studies.Now Phillip is equipped with his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education, and is eager to make a difference, helping students understand their worlds better and preparing them to be citizens of their communities and of the world. He is excited to bring his insightful lessons, compassionate spirit, and unbridled passion for learning to his career.
