Profile bio

About Pippa Bailey

I grew up, live and work on unceded Wangal land. I respectfully acknowledge First Nations Elders, past and present, and offer allegiance to future leaders. #alwayswasalwayswillbeI'm focused on creative social change, working through arts and culture, to open hearts, change minds and bring disparate peoples together. Grounded in the performing arts and live events, I've run festivals, built a multi-arts centre, curated galleries and talks, flown to the Moon, conjured a museum, supported many amazing artists and played with fire. I've also been a TV reporter, made 2 documentaries and wrangled a comedy venue. The projects I deliver are often participatory and always collaborative, working across sectors. At ChangeFest I partnered with First Nations Elders and community leaders to host national place-based social change events. With Sydney Festival I produced major new works including a city wide participatory cycling project 'Fly Me To The Moon' activating people's imaginations and getting fit to commemorate the Moon Landing. At Performing Lines I worked with some of Australia's most exciting contemporary performing artists to realise and tour their shows. With Total Theatre I developed a rigorous awards process at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and helped grow The World Famous company of pyrotechnicians, creating large scale fire and firework shows that toured the world. Through BiDiNG TiME I imagined a 'fair trade' theatre model for international participation and collaboration. I've often worked between cultures, brokering expectations and practices, uniting different communities. I'm passionate about addressing crisis in the natural world, responding to climate emergency with justice at the centre of change. This includes shifting mindsets, power structures & perspectives to achieve greater equity and raise minority voices. I check my privilege, try to be honest about what I don't know, pass on skills and roll up my sleeves to get stuff done.I take a systems approach, balancing creative roles with management, sourcing funds and teams. Creativity is vital at every layer of organistion to ensure that structures and systems benefit from new ideas. As a dramaturg, trainer and advisor, I help develop strategic plans - aligning vision to values; principles, policy and practice. At this time of social upheaval and transition, old systems are not working effectively for people now. I seek to collaborate with others to reimagine structures & employ creative processes to find new ways forward. Exploring how is challenging, urgent and wildly exciting.

Listed skills include Theatre, Performing Arts, Festivals, Arts Administration, and 41 others.
