My background is in the field of zoology with emphasis on fish diversity, cytogenetics, molecular genetics and human genetics; areas that I have also had thirteen years teaching experience at the university level, teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students. My primary research interest has been in assessing status and changes in the diversity of fishes as a measure of natural changes in environmental variables and/or anthropogenic activities. This is with a view to obtain valuable data on original and altered biodiversity that will be useful in taking appropriate decision to protect the environment and ultimately maintain ecosystem health. As such, I implement my experience in using and developing identification tools, including cytogenetics and molecular genetics tools to answer taxonomic, ecological and phylogenetic questions related to fishes. To this end, I have had successful cooperation with internationally renowned scholars and laboratories and this has made it possible to study, document and preserve fishes of Nigeria in an unprecedented manner.
