My background is in the field of zoology with emphasis on fish diversity, molecular genetics, cytogenetics and human genetics. My primary research interest has been in assessing status and changes in the diversity of fishes as a measure of natural changes in environmental variables and/or anthropogenic activities. This is to obtain valuable data on original and altered biodiversity that will be useful in taking appropriate decisions to protect the environment and ultimately maintain ecosystem health. As such, I implement my experience in using and developing identification tools, including molecular genetics and cytogenetics, to answer taxonomic, ecological and phylogenetic questions related to fish,. I am thus, highly experienced in ichthyological freshwater field research: this includes a wide variety of fishing methods, photography, tissue sampling (i.e. for subsequent DNA & RNA analysis), fixation and preservation of specimens and subsequent preparation for inventory of specimens for museum collections as well as taxonomic identification of specimens...I am equally experienced in cytogenetics/molecular genetic laboratory techniques including: gelelectrophoresis, different DNA extraction and purification techniques, differentPCR techniques, DNA sequencing... I am also conversant with relevant softwares like Microsoft Office; Graphic tools: Gimp, Inkscape; Bioinformatic tools: i.e. PHYLIP, BEAST, jModelTest, FigTree, PAST, BOLD (i.e.DNA-barcoding applications)..My research efforts has attracted research grants/travel grants/fellowship/research stay stipends from International Foundation for Science, Auburn State University, Nigeria Education Trust Fund, Bavarian State Collection of Icthyology.I have active collaboration effort with colleagues in Europe, Canada, United States of America and Central and Western Africa.Among other research achievements, I have reported about 12 species of fishes that are new to science.
