I started working in the development sector since 2005. My work experience ranges from working in area of primary education in government schools to cause of street children who are one of the most marginalized and excluded group in accessing primary education. The first assignment centred around using large scale assessments as a tool to understand achievements among primary school children in two districts of North Gujarat - Banaskantha and Sabarkantha. It entailed creation of a small group of teachers and educational stakeholder trained in using competency based testing tools. Approximately 900 schools participated in the assessments voluntarily and 40 schools were identified where in a more that 60% children did very well in these assessment. The challenges that emerged from this is that teachers were looking for solutions as to how one can bridge the gap for children who have low achievement levels. It also threw up larger questions to whether inputs in the classroom are more important that the output of the child in summative assessment. I worked for the cause of street children through Rainbow Homes since 2010. The work involved documentation of the compreshensive care programme for street chidren. The Rainbow Model is now functional in eight cities namely Delhi, Kolkata, Patna, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore and Anantapur with 44 homes catering to more that 3000 children formerly on streets. The key feature of the programme is to provide long term care to children in public spaces like government schools wherein a part of the school is refurbished for residential stay. This programme is being implemented through direct homes and 23 partner organizations. My work is centred around capacity building of the staff members of all the homes. In addition, i am also working on documentation and research on issues of street children. This year I am also working on Knowledge Sharing and Exchange beyond the organization.
