The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) is Arkansas’ Homeland Security and Preparedness Agency. ADEM serves as the state’s coordination center for the capabilities necessary to prevent, protect against, mitigate the effects of, respond to, and recover from those threats that pose the greatest risk to the security of the Nation. The State’s Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) is housed at ADEM. In a disaster, the SEOC has representatives from various state agencies to ensure that assistance can be given quickly. Disasters are local. They affect us as citizens, our neighbors and our communities. ADEM works with the local governments to make sure that our communities return to normal as soon as possible.

Cut, shape, and assemble wooden articles or set up and operate a variety of woodworking machines, such as power saws, jointers, and mortisers to surface, cut, or shape lumber or to fabricate parts for wood products.Shape, finish, and refinish damaged, worn, or used furniture or new high-grade furniture to specified color or finish.Brush, spray, or hand-rub finishing ingredients, such as paint, oil, stain, or wax, onto and into wood grain; then apply lacquer or other sealers.Disassemble items to prepare them for finishing, using hand tools.Examine furniture to determine the extent of damage or deterioration, and to decide on the best method for repair or restoration.Fill and smooth cracks or depressions, remove marks and imperfections, and repair broken parts, using plastic or wood putty, glue, nails, and/or screws.Follow blueprints to produce specific designs.Mix finish ingredients to obtain desired colors or shades.Remove accessories prior to finishing, and mask areas that should not be exposed to finishing processes or substances.Remove excess solvent, using cloths soaked in paint thinner.Select appropriate finishing ingredients such as paint, stain, lacquer, shellac, or varnish, depending on factors such as wood hardness and surface type.Wash surfaces to prepare them for finish application.Brush bleaching agents on wood surfaces to restore natural color.
