Field Technician/Bioarchaeologist
CurrentThrough this job I have gained experience with Stages 2-4 of archaeological excavation on indigenous archaeological sites ranging from Archaic lithic scatters to Late Woodland and contact period villages. As on-site bioarchaeologist, it is my responsibility to perform both the Field Technician role as well as identify and analyze human remains when they are recovered. Tasks and skills performed in this role include: · Identification of human remains· Field walking, test pitting, unit excavation, and feature excavation· Identification of artifacts such as lithic flakes and points, indigenous pottery, and bone· Engagement with First Nations Liaisons· Laying in grids and units on a variety of terrains· Mapping and recording artifact finds and counts· Using a Total Station to map blocks and features
