About Rachel Collins

Rachel Collins, PhD is a visitor use project manager for National Park Service. Her role is to fuse social science research, social behavioral theory, with management objectives to inform policy and planning efforts. Her work helps to design recreation opportunities, improve transportation system performance, and provide intentional visitor capacity management such that park resources remain protected and visitor experiences are enhanced. Rachel also has a strong facilitation background from her years of university teaching and enjoys helping diverse groups come together to meet project goals. Rachel’s key interest is in developing and implementing planning processes and products that enhance the visitor experiences of our national parks while protecting resources, with specialties in diversifying and optimizing recreation opportunities and visitor experiences. She has extensive experience in creative problem solving that leads to novel solutions that are at the forefront of transportation and visitor use management for the NPS. Rachel has a PhD in Parks and Recreation with a focus in ill-structured and wicked problem solving theory applications from the University of Utah.
