Responsible for the strategy, budget planning, management and reporting for all internal and external communications for Samaritans IrelandAwareness raising: Planning and delivering campaigns to encourage people to contact Samaritans, coordinating the communications element of the transition to a new free call number, coordinating 'Talk to Us' a month long communications and outreach month with events across the country.Media relations: Pro-actively pitching stories to media, responding to media requests, building relationships with journalists, providing media training to Samaritans volunteers and building the capacity of our branches across the country to generate local publicity, briefing Executive Director and senior volunteers for media appearances, monitoring media coverage and trends, case study development, acting as media spokesperson as required.Policy development: Developing policy positions on issues related to suicide reduction, preparing submissions for public consultations, project managing research, advocating for evidence-based interventions to reduce suicide, and representing Samaritans on the Department of Health’s Connecting for Life Policy Advisory Group.Event management: Selecting venues, securing speakers, managing media briefings, conferences photo calls, launches and public meetings.Team and relationship management: Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including politicians, political advisors, researchers, healthcare professionals, civil servants, journalists and other NGOs. Managing a communications officer, communications intern and a network of volunteer PROs. Managing the Health Reform Alliance in my role as Chair.Copy-writing and content development: Producing press releases, reports, briefing notes, valuable content for online, digital and social media.
