I held three main positions while working for the City of Cape Town local government in the economic development directorate over a period of 7 years:Manager Policy AnalysisManager Trade PromotionManager Sector DevelopmentI was responsible for the following:a) Developing an economic development information system and databases to monitor and track economic trends at the city level, including internet enabled business databases.b) Developing a Trade Promotion Strategy for the Western Cape Province to inform the restructuring of the provincial trade and investment promotion agency.c) Facilitating sector development strategies for the craft, call centre, IT, boat-building, clothing sectors, including the establishment of non-profit sector development public-private partnerships.
As urban economist, I was responsible for assisting local governments develop local economic development strategies. I also managed a feasibility study for a fresh produce wholesale market at Philippi East and designed marketing material for promoting investment in the township areas of Cape Town.
