Senior Software Engineer - Dgx Cloud Infra

Redmond, Wa, Us

Principal Software Engineering Manager – Azure Specialized – Epic On Baremetal

- Achieved 99.99% availability for mission-critical EPIC health system workload on BareMetal nodes. To accomplish this, lead team of 7 engineers and partnered with an overseas team to invest in these areas: o Deeper instrumentation for alerting on network, storage, compute issues o Predictive alerting for hardware failures based on historical signals o Automation to achieve faster and more reliable node replacement. - Drove Mt. Sinai EPIC operational database deployment to completion by coordinating across globally distributed software engineering, site reliability engineering, and technical program management teams. - Lead cross discipline team to deliver VMWare-based clusters on BareMetal nodes for the Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) hospital production and DR environments. - Lead 2 engineers to develop automation for new Nutanix region build outs which improved build out time from 5 days to 2 days which enabled faster customer growth and expansion into 13 regions. - Lead team to focus on service hardening: o Compliant build/release pipeline o Rebranded the customer nodes from BareMetal to Azure Large Instance in ARM APIs o Migration of production operator actions portal onto a secure platform o Comprehensive node inventory management which also addressed telemetry gaps o Prototype of PXE booting in stamp environment. - Reduced hotfix turnaround time from 2 days to 4 hours by overseeing investments in automation of dev-test environment creation.

Sr. Sde, Principal Sde – Azure Specialized – Nutanix Cloud Clusters

- Designed a microservice called BladeManager for managing the inventory and node lifecycle of Dell iDRAC blades. BladeManager supports secure wipe, firmware update, and OS installation operations on the blades using Redfish APIs. Designed deployment pipeline for these services to follow safe deployment practices (SDP). The pipeline detected regressions in the canary environment before impacting customers. - Lead a v-team of 4 engineers to successfully deliver the BladeManager control plane needed to achieve general availability of Nutanix Cloud Clusters (NC2) offering on Azure across 7 regions. Annual revenue from this offering is $24 million and continuing to expand quickly with new regions coming online. - Reduced engineering/operations cost by $4 million by choosing to extend existing software stack instead of creating a completely new one from scratch. - Nutanix consumes a top-level resource provider called Dedicated RP (DRP owned by partner team) to prepare and allocate nodes for customers. DRP orchestrates the CRUD of network and compute resources by delegating to other microservices. Compute operations are delegated to BladeManager. Defined the API contract between DRP and BladeManager, then provided guidance for the DRP async operation implementation.

Nov 2020 - Oct 2022

Sr. Software Design Engineer – Azure Dedicated – Sap Hana On Baremetal

- Achieved 99.9% availability of BareMetal SAP HANA resource provider (RP) by driving the following: o Migrated to Azure Kubernetes Service from virtual machines o Deployed regional instances in isolated Azure subscriptions to meet geopolitical, availability, security guidelines o Defined steps for achieving zonal redundancy in each region o Defined application deployment process that avoids interruptions to requests. - Reduced new region build out time of the RP from 2 days to 4 hours and eliminated human errors by devising a new deployment framework. The same deployment framework was later adapted for Nutanix and EPIC workloads. - Lead a team of 4 engineers to improve the speed and accuracy of customer provisioning by implementing automation for creating customized topologies consisting of compute nodes and SAN volumes. - Successfully retained the largest SAP HANA customer when they found issues related to SAN replication performance. Lead the investigation and guided the team to the root cause. Based on the bottlenecks found, proposed scale out of the SAN clusters in both peer regions which resolved the customer issue in a cost-effective manner.

Sep 2016 - Oct 2020

Software Design Engineer 2 - Azure Os

- Designed and implemented static VHD prefetch to reduce OS boot time for Windows VMs by up to 60%. This feature has now been encapsulated into a separate service to handle prefetch for other OS images that are published in Azure. - Created Hyper-V wrapper library that is used by Azure host agent to manage virtual machines and implemented changes in the VHD layer for the durable virtual machine offering (IaaS) in the Azure 2012 preview spring release. - Acted as tech lead in v-team to deliver a POC to improve VM boot performance using APDrive (which is a software SAN component used in AutoPilot). Drove the integration of APDrive services with kernel mode Azure host drivers and services to develop a prototype for supporting ephemeral VMs. Defined the testing methodology and oversaw the experiments that demonstrated consistent 20-30% reduction in boot times. - Designed and implemented logging/instrumentation library that is still a critical part of the Azure host logging infrastructure.

Dec 2010 - Aug 2016

Software Design Engineer - Digital Rights Management

- Successfully debugged ASF packager issue and provided a low-cost fix that unblocked key PlayReady customers. - Designed and implemented scalable, reliable services for PlayReady versions 1.0 – 1.5 that support the client-side DRM components. The services were proven to be reliable across multiple releases.- Developed client-side DRM software that plugged into Silverlight 4.0 for both Windows and Mac OSX environments. Previously used by Netflix for streaming content.- Designed and developed a tool to securely store cryptographic assets that was adopted by the entire team as a best practice.- Incorporated encryption algorithms and public key/private key infrastructure into the various projects.
