I'm a full stack documentarian with a focus on creating technical content that helps users find answers and solutions so they can get back to doing what they do best for their organizations. Let's be honest, no one is reading my documentation for fun, so it's my job to make sure what they do read is clear, concise, and correct. I lead large and small information development projects from end-to-end. I work with stakeholders across the organization to understand the needs of the audience as well as the business, and then plan, execute, and lead all phases of a project. Being a full stack documentarian means that I handle all parts of the documentation development lifecycle (analysis and planning, document design, content creation and review, publication, maintenance, and measurement) with little to no oversight. It also means that I think strategically about the role documentation plays in helping the company achieve its goals. I've been a technical writer since 2008, and over the past several years I've also added usability and UX writing to my skillset. I'm technology agnostic, and can quickly come up to speed on any tool or technology I need to use. At my current job I work in MadCap Flare and manage all my documentation sources using Git. At a previous job all my authoring was done in Vim, using Markdown for formatting and Pandoc to create my output, along with Git for source control. I love being a technical writer. This is the only career I've found that allows me to be both creative and process, project, and procedure focused. I get to constantly learn new things and work with really smart and creative people who always push me to be better at what I do. I've worked in IT since 1998, and spent 10 years in technical support and UNIX/Linux system admin roles before moving into information development. My experience working directly with users to help solve their problems, along with my experience managing servers and networks, has helped shape my work as an information developer. I'm able to truly look at things from the users' point of view, and I have the technical ability to understand and work with software developers, QA, and DevOps.
