The SFL-TAP Career Counselor is the SFL-TAP Center's principal provider of services to transitioningService Members and their Family Members. The SFL-TAP Career Counselor serves as anadvisor/counselor to assist with navigating the VOW/CRS mandates to become Career Ready and to track progress of transitioned in TAPXXI. The Career Counselor complies with the instructions of the Contract Installation Manager (CIM) to perform tasks. The specific duties of the SFL-TAP Career Counselor include but are not limited to: Conduct Pre-Separation Briefings, Transition Overview Courses, MOS Crosswalk Courses and Pre-separation counseling. Assist clients as needed in preparing Individual Transition Plans (ITPs) and monitoring progress by notifying/encouraging completion of products (resume, gap analysis, etc.) Provide Initial Transition Counseling. Insure all separating military personnel complete a form DD-2648/DD-2648-1 for Reserve Component, Pre-separation Counseling Checklist; and, complete a CAPSTONE event to receive DD-2958 and meet VOW/CRS requirements for Career Readiness. Refer separating personnel to both on-post and off-post service providers. Conduct and/or offer additive workshops that increase knowledge on skills learned during the Department of Labor Employment workshop via JKO and Virtual means. Provide instruction to clients on automated tools to include: TAPXXI and resume writer Assist clients in translating their military skills and training into language that will be clearly understood and appreciated by private sector employers. Facilitate the client's transition from the military environment to the civilian environment Assist CIM with delivering Commanders reports and notifying clients of eligibility to begin services while also notifying clients of missed requirements for VOW/CRS Other duties: complete all mandatory Government training; safeguard PII; file records according to ARIMS; upload information into iPERMS (after training received from Govt);

Presents instruction in the form of lectures ad conducts demonstrations, discussions and practical Operating Room exercises. Develops special learning exercises, such as word games for students for enhanced learning. Determines methods for giving concrete expression to the principles of Operating Room nursing by explaining and demonstrating principles to students. Principles include aseptic technique; patient safety; universal precautions; the roles of the scrub; the circulator and the central material service technician; ethical principles used to dilemmas OR personal may encounter. Conducts course enrollment and student review on the first day of class. Monitors student's academic progress during Phase 1(classroom) and 2 (clinical / hands on). Counsels Phase 1 students on course requirements, grading policies, relief/new start policy and other administrative details. Develops and administers examinations, counsels students and maintains both physical and digital records.Directly assists the Deputy Director for the Army Surgical technology program concerning assignments, blackboard management, curriculum and policies and procedures. Also primary individual performing site assistance visits (SAV) for (13) Army clinical training sites throughout the United States and her territories.

Solely responsible for Phase II / On the Job Training (OJT) / Clinical phase of the Surgical Technology program at South Texas Veterans Healthcare Administration (VA); IAHCSMM and AST certified; Versed in all areas of sterile technique with emphasis on blood borne pathogens, gross contaminants and body fluid management; Works closely with the Human Resource department to ensure all student requirements are met; Sole provider of in-services, lectures and hands on demonstrations as well as practical exercises; Strives to improve student knowledge on standard /universal precautions, patient safety the role of the assistant to the circulator and surgical technologist, and role of the central material service technician; Teaches and reinforces personnel knowledge on principles of sterilization to counseling students on personal, professional, performance and/or event- oriented issues; Develops and grows program through continuous education and best practices training; Constantly works to improved relations with military leadership and operating room staff; Fosters the development of personal and professional work ethics improvements for new soldiers / employees.

Critical team member responsible for the development of instructional materials for distance learning in the subject matter of surgical technology; Interviewed and tailored training and lesson plans to specific needs of client organization; Specialization in principles of aseptic technique and its applications; Supervised the collection of resources and processes, biological testing and tracking, packaging, storage, shelf life and inventory rotations; Key individual in the transformation of written lesson plans to story board conversions. Served as liaison between Decypher technologies and AMEDD Surgical technology branch managers; assembled manpower for filming schedules in various locations across San Antonio, TX; Served as director and actor during filming and editing process of instruction materials.
