Commander, Professional Development Division
As the commander overseeing the Professional Development Division, I worked with a dedicated team of professional, sworn, and volunteer staff in the areas of training, recruitment, CALEA accreditation and policy development. I was responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the annual, department-wide training plan and triennial recruitment plan, as well as ensuring the success of the department’s quadrennial CALEA accreditation. Each involved close working relationships, effective oral and written communication, attention to detail and efficient time management to ensure timely delivery of each of the aforementioned and their associated requirements.

The Support Services Unit is made up of the department’s Traffic Unit, animal control officers, park rangers and jail transport personnel. I directly supervised three sergeants who oversaw a staff of nearly 25 team members. The team included detectives, task force officers, a crime analyst, a victim services program manager and volunteers. In addition to my role as the Investigations Division lieutenant, I managed the departments tactical and negotiations teams. A member of SWAT since 2001, I advanced from operator to team leader, team sergeant and team commander. I oversaw the safe, effective and efficient acquisition, implementation and deployment of training, equipment and personnel for and during training and real-world deployments. As the team commander I managed more than a million dollars in assets and assured the 16-person SWAT team maintained regional response capabilities and as part of the department’s commitment to the State’s Urban Area Security Initiative.

Sergeant, Administrative Services Division
As the Surprise Police Department’s administrative sergeant and PIO (public information officer), I led a team of sworn and non-sworn staff assigned to the department’s Recruitment, Crime Prevention/Community Relations, Training and CALEA Units.
