Our purpose was to help start-ups and their founders be ready for pole position.Completely customized for the needs of Indian start-up founders, VentureNursery accelerated pre-product, pre-revenue and early revenue ideas. Our 90-Day boot camps ran up to four times a year and accommodated up to three start-ups each season. First- time entrepreneurs stood to benefit the most from our active acceleration program. We followed a mentoring-first approach and designed a 100% customized program for each start-up. The start-up founders gained from the experience, expertise and business connections of our 80 odd mentors-in-residence [entrepreneurs, domain experts, senior corporate executives] and 30 investing Members, under guidance of our Mentoring Council. As required, our participating start-ups also accessed our business support partners [for brand identity, media communication, website design, legal, accounting, company secretarial help] for a reduced or delayed fee, paid directly. Again, as required, we helped our start-ups find co-founders and / or other senior executives.At the end of the program, all start-ups got an opportunity to pitch to our Members for graduation, feedback and seed funding. Ours was a tough program and was not for the faint-hearted. It was meant for serious entrepreneurs who wanted to solve real problems, build sustainable enterprises, scale them and create tremendous value for the community and for themselves. Between 2012 and 2016, we accelerated 21 start-ups, of whom 12 raised angel funding from our members. Many saw great traction and some continue to build their business and make us proud. Prominent amongst our graduates are OYO Rooms, Talview, Invenzone/Arya, Home Salon and Catapooolt. In 2016, we stopped taking fresh applications and focused on helping our portfolio companies, including in making decisions such as pivoting, selling or closing down operations. -
