I sometimes ask myself; how did I start out as a finance major in college but ended up in the Promotional Product…aka Branded Swag world? I have always been a believer in listening to the universe and watching for cues and when the doors of opportunity open, step through them and see what happens. In my case – it was a good move and by doing so, I have acquired a vast amount of skill sets and job experiences. I started as a Merchandise Buyer in retail and moved to an Account Coordinator in the branded merchandise world, climbed up many levels in sales and management and then became an owner of my own small business. I’ve traveled the world and have worked with incredibly smart and creative people, many of which are and will always be lifetime friends. It wasn’t luck that got me through each stage, it was hard work, (insert most over-used buzzword) “creativity”, my overly positive can-do attitude, and strong problem-solving abilities. I don’t think of myself as a “sale person”, but it is a huge part of what I do to acquire clients and grow my sales with them. I do the work to open the door by “selling” myself and the company I represent. Once a prospect becomes a client and I have earned their respect and trust as their supplier partner, they depend on me to make things happen and make them look good. I’ve been told by clients that they think of me as a member of their team and not a “supplier sales guy”. That is my goal for every client and the reason I have been able to grow sales revenues from $100K to $1.6M in a few short years in my first industry position and then again from zero to average annual sales between $3-5M after 3 short years as owner of my own company. I am a relationship-oriented person and expanding my network of friends and business associates fuels me. It’s not surprising to share that my biggest passion is working with people at all levels, either as a teammate, boss, a client and of course with clients. If you are a buyer of swag or know of anyone that is, I would love to connect with you so please say hi!
