The Estroff Group• Investigated the biomineralization pathways involved during the progression of human calcific aortic valve disease• Designed the experiment workflow and coordinated people and resources among three research groups• Applied vibrational spectroscopy (i.e., FTIR & Raman) and micro-CT to characterize valvular calcifications• Performed a multivariate analysis on data that include hyperspectral Raman datasets, histology staining, and patient clinical information, to uncover mineralization pathways of valvular calcification

Capstone project in collaboration with Stryker• Developed a bone density instrument that evaluates bone quality to help Stryker orthopedic surgeons determine if a cementless knee implant can be incorporated in a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) surgery• Performed a TKA on sawbones samples, contacted around twenty surgeons across US, and developed associated benchmarking, concept design, and financial modeling• Designed, 3D printed, and tested a prototype of weight-drop indenter with a scale to quantitatively measure bone quality

Miwa Lab• Conducted basic lab work for a private neurobiological project aiming to trace single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) within the LYNX gene• Extracted DNA from mice tail samples and performed different genotype tests on mice & human DNA via PCR & gel electrophoresis • Trained new students with basic skills required for the lab
