About E. Jane Davidson
"A fragrant breeze of fresh evaluative air."Making the important measurable, not the measurable important. Jane is best known for developing evaluation rubrics as a methodology to help design, guide, accelerate, and track deep, systemic change. What I'm working on right now:Laudes Foundation, an independent, Europe-based foundation, is responding to the dual crises of inequality and climate breakdown through synergistic and collaborative efforts in finance and capital markets, the fashion industry, and the built environment. With an ambition this broad, a global system so huge and complex, and so many potential change levers to pull, what kind of evaluation and learning system would you need to guide the change? In collaboration with Laudes and my Rio-based collaborator, Dr. Thomaz Chianca, we have developed a systemwide theory of change with a rubric-enhanced measurement and learning system to help leaders keep their fingers on the pulse of this complex, systemic change effort. In 2021, we are supporting the rollout and refinement of this cutting-edge system. I also coach fellow evaluators looking to apply rubrics methodology or take it to the next level. Supporting graduate-level evaluation studies within the University of Melbourne's Graduate School of Education, mostly as a guest lecturer via Zoom, taking students' questions on rubrics, synthesis methodologies, and the practicalities of doing evaluation that is actually evaluative. As far as I am aware, this is the only graduate program in evaluation that explicitly teaches evaluation-specific methodology (e.g., systematic and transparent methods for merit determination, importance determination, and evaluative synthesis). If there are others out there that do this, I would love to hear of them! Any faculty using my text, Evaluation Methodology Basics: The nuts and bolts of sound evaluation, I am happy to beam into your classes too and answer any questions your students may have. Drop me a note if interested. :)

Qualitative And Quantitative Assessment Specialist
Associate Director
The Evaluation Center's mission is to advance the theory, practice, and utilization of evaluation. Evaluation is the systematic determination of merit, worth, and/or significance. Evaluation may be done for the purpose of improvement, to help make decisions about the best course of action, and/or to learn about the reasons for successes and failures. Professional evaluators evaluate programs, personnel, products, policies, and more. The process of evaluation encompasses identifying audiences and their questions; defining evaluation criteria; obtaining, analyzing, and synthesizing relevant information to judge merit, worth, and/or significance; reporting results; and promoting appropriate and effective use of the findings.
Programme Director
Davidson gained approval for, launched and directed the first year of this world-class doctoral program. The Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Evaluation program (IDPE) develops thought leaders in evaluation who have: * Deep knowledge of evaluation theory, methodology, and practice * Superior skills in practical and critical thinking * A knack for seeing opportunities for innovation and improvementStudents obtain hands-on learning experiences by being immersed in a real-world learning laboratory from the beginning of their training. Students work their way up the ladder, taking increasingly challenging roles on Evaluation Center projects as they develop knowledge and skills. All students graduating from the program are able to “hit the ground running” as competent practitioners.
