I wrote more than 700 bylined stories in my 16 months at the Kentucky New Era. I was promoted to the senior staff writer position within my first year on the job. Along with covering nearly every beat in the newsroom, I also handled assigning and editing stories.

My primary focus as the city/government reporter was covering local governments in three counties and at the state level. I generated nearly every story idea, and won three Kentucky Press Association awards from stories while in this position.

During my time at The Times Leader I helped in multiple departments. I wrote for the news and features sections and several special sections. I took photos for all of my stories and helped edit the photos in PhotoShop. I also assisted at the copy desk when needed and laid out several special sections/magazines.

I wrote a monthly column highlighting a vast range of topics from current events, family background and the history of Paducah.

I assigned all the stories for the news section of The Murray State News each week. I edited stories and worked with each staff writer individually. I was in charge with assisting with page design for the inside pages of the paper and helped with social media.

During my time as a staff writer, I wrote more than 50 stories for the news section. I also helped develop numerous story ideas for the news section. As a weekly paper, I usually wrote between 1-3 stories a week. I covered a wide range of topics spanning from health research articles, profiles, Greek Life, Student Government Association, city news and our recent University Presidential search.
