Support the CASC NA, GEOS NA, and CBI NA businesses as an automation specialist and am guiding IT/OT discussions and direction. I primarily work with automation applications from ISA 95 Levels 1-3. This includes PLC and HMI programming best practices, internal object library maintenance, alarm rationalization & management, state-based control implementation, High Performance graphic standards and implementation. I am supporting plants with Rockwell PLCs, DeltaV, iFIX, FactoryTalk View, and Ignition. I am also heavily involved with administration for our OSI PI Data historians across my supported sites which includes 27 PI Data Archives with nearly 2 million tags in them. Data historian management includes aligning security access, tag cleanups for configuration alignment, lifecycle oversight, and site architecture review. Operational Technology (OT) components that I am provide guidance on are reviewing network architectures, fiber layouts, server system configuration and virtualization, application architectures, and triage support for the aforementioned items.

Instrumentation & Controls Design Engineer

San Antonio, Tx, Us

Zachry Group is America's pace-setter in turnkey construction, engineering, maintenance, turnaround and fabrication services to the power, energy, chemicals, manufacturing and industrial sectors. My contribution to the design team is to identify, design, and document the required process controls, instrumentation, and networking required to safely operate a new industrial facility or retrofit an existing facility for new equipment. Engineering design deliverable documents include control system Input/Output (I/O) list, instrumentation list, control system logic SAMA diagrams, instrument loop drawings, network communication layouts, and third party interfaces. These tasks requires me to be a diligent and organized worker to meet project schedule and costs. I spent nearly two years on a construction site supporting and resolving any engineering issues that arose during installation. During that time I located instrumentation, assisted construction with impulse tubing routing, installed fiber network patch panels and patch cords, connected 43 communication links to DCS, and modified control system logic for more reliable and safe operation. In the office I have led the design on several retrofit projects and proposal efforts. Also have assisted others in with designing control system logic and managing the I/O database.

Performance Engineer - Performance Testing & Analysis

Minneapolis, Minnesota, Us

Xcel Energy is a major U.S. electric and natural gas company, with annual revenues of $11.7 billion. Based in Minneapolis, Minn., they have regulated operations in eight Midwestern and Western states, and provide a comprehensive portfolio of energy-related products and services to approximately 3.5 million electricity customers and 2 million natural gas customers through four operating companies.During my time with Xcel, I worked in the Performance Testing and Analysis group which is part of Energy Supply's - Technical Services division. Our group provided support to the power plants for maintaining reliable and efficient operation of the generation units. This role provided me with invaluable field engineering experience of setting up temporary instrumentation and wiring for performance testing in the plants. Performance tests included heat balances, heat rates, feedwater heaters, pumps, and boilers. Through effective communication and support of testing results I would recommend plant operation changes that should be made to improve operating efficiency and reliability. Another job responsibility was to work with the commercial operations group at Xcel during seasonal capacity planning efforts. I would communicate testing requirements to each of the plant directors of all 64 units in the Northern States Power region and deliver the results to Midwestern Interconnection System Operator (MISO) for their resource planning. This process was vital to the core of Xcel's business model of selling power to the market. A third major responsibility I had was to act as a witness to annual power purchase agreement testing on behalf of Xcel Energy. I would visit two other plants owned and operated by different companies to ensure that the plants were capable of meeting contract requirements.

Sioux Center, Iowa, Us

Tutored students in math, physics, chemistry, and engineering related courses throughout the year. My goal tutoring was to teach the students to become independent learners in their school work.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

San Antonio, Tx, Us

My main job task as an intern was to integrate a new program, Bentley DataManager, into the design process. This program is a database management tool generated by information populated during the drawing of the "smart" process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). This task gave me the opportunity to work closely with the designers and drafters to learn the drawing process, and design engineers in teaching them the software functionality. In addition, I also worked on creating engineering calculation spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel. Calculations included checking allowable stress levels in piping and connections, net positive suction head for pumps, required pipe insulation thickness for personal protection, and preliminary tank sizing. In an effort to reduce the input and effort required by the design engineers, the spreadsheets were quite thorough and often contained VBA Macros.
