Co-Founder, Cto, Head Of Product8Tracks Nov 2006 - Apr 2015San Francisco, California, UsI wore many hats at 8tracks, from being the first engineer to leading the Product & Eng teams. I never stopped coding the whole time (Ruby, SQL, Redis, Redshift, etc..)So what is 8tracks? 8tracks is the best place for people who care about music to make and discover refreshingly human playlists. The digital music space is notoriously difficult with thin revenues, high royalty costs, music industry tough to work with, a lot of competition. Still, we managed to grow to 8 million monthly uniques by keeping our product differentiated from the pack. 8tracks focuses on building a meaningful and creative experience around music curation and discovery instead of treating music as a commodity. Some accomplishments I am proud of:- Grew the engineering & product team from 1 (myself) to 12- Scaled the service to 8 million MAUs on web and mobile apps- Used machine learning to build recommender services to improve the discovery experience- Developed a custom system for browsing playlists by tags with ease-of-use, personalization and scale in mind (built on Redis zsets with cache warmup mechanisms and master-slave setup- Built a passionate community and respected brand -
Engineering ManagerSprig Aug 2015 - Aug 2016San Francisco, Ca, UsJoined as the first Engineering Manager.- Established proper 1-on-1s with the 5 engineers on the team.
