    At Copeland, I worked in Research, under Jean-Luc Caillat, developing scroll compressor technologies for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration systems. I developed: single speed and variable speed motor drives; horizontal and vertical compressors; orbiting and co-rotating designs. I worked with multiple refrigerants, R-22, R-407C, R-134a, R-410A, air, and helium. I developed lowside and highside oil lubrication systems. I developed the Copeland UltraTech compressor, a mechanical modulation concept. Research mechanical Modulated scroll compressor. Design, procure, and test multiple approaches. Select best performance, most reliable, easiest to manufacture design. Patent unique modulation mechanism allowing Copeland to enter market. Avoid high cost of variable speed motor and drive, improve noise, improve comfort. Copeland launched UltraTech compressor based on my proven concept, selling in high efficiency Lennox and Trane units.Developed a NIST-ATP funded Horizontal, Variable Speed, Co-Rotating Compressor. I was the team and technical leader of variable speed, co-rotating, scroll compressor. Developed technology under NIST-ATP grant. Developed new motor, refrigerant, operating envelope, and drive mechanism. Created design capable of mass production. A competitor, Alliance Scroll (Trane - Lennox JV), was developing a similar (co-rotating) technology. 2.5 years into our development, we opened discussions with Alliance Scroll. Unveiled our design. Six months later Alliance stopped development of their design and partnered with to Copeland and began producing a Copeland designed compressor.
