I have more than a decade of experience working for Transport for London, principally in the rail side of their business. Building on a background of study in Geography and Transport at Oxford and Imperial/UCL respectively, I apply my analytical skills to a range of modelling, service planning and upgrade projects.I currently work as a Principal Planner in the Rail Development team, which covers strategy, service planning, business cases and development control for TfL's rail modes. My focus is primarily on the DLR.My previous, longest role was with the Transport Modelling team (same department), where I maintained and deployed simulation models of each Underground line created in LU's bespoke Train Service Model (TSM) software. I used these on a range of complex programmes and projects, including the Deep Tube Upgrade Programme, Four Lines Modernisation, and DLR Upgrade Plan. Through this work, I worked with a range of colleagues and clients and deployed a range of skills including problem solving, lateral thinking, domain knowledge, research, technical communication and stakeholder management.From 2013-2015, I was on TfL's Transport Planning graduate scheme. As a result, I have experienced a range of areas in the business, including stakeholder management, business case development, consultation, service planning and, through a series of shorter placements, front line operations.Alongside my work, I completed a part-time MSc Transport run jointly by Imperial College London and University College London (UCL), for which I achieved a Distinction. My dissertation involved producing a prototype version of TSM in MATLAB that explicitly modelled the impact of passenger distribution (e.g. along a platform) on dwell times. This involved synthesising a wide array of academic, operational and primary research, as well as learning how to code on-the-fly.Prior to TfL, I studied Geography at St Anne's College at the University of Oxford. My dissertation considered rail accessibility to London airports (and Birmingham) in the light of High Speed 2.Through my work, my academia and my personal interest, I have developed and deployed a wide base of knowledge on technical concepts and methods relating to railway transportation, especially on metros. I regularly attend a range of seminars and other events relating to transport provided by professional bodies including CILT and IRO.
