About Richard Gibson

I am proud to work for Healx, an amazing AI biotech company in Cambridge, UK. Healx's mission is to discover and optimise novel drugs to people with rare diseases by harnessing the power of AI, Big Data and scientific insight. The whole team works tightly together in a truly exceptional culture. At Healx, I have curated rare disease data that is fed into our prediction algorithms, led on early-stage disease projects and coordinated the disease selection process. More recently, I am helping to find the right solutions for the way we capture our preclinical data. The work is both challenging and rewarding.I have a university education in molecular biology, molecular evolution, phylogenetics and biostatistics with additional training in historical database inquiry. I previously worked as a scientific database curator at the European Nucleotide Archive at EMBL-EBI for nine years, dealing with data standards and curation in taxonomy, biological samples, sequencing (traditional and nextgen) and feature annotation. Prior to that, I worked as a computation biologist in the Sanger Institute's HAVANA team for just over three years. There I conducted genomic annotation on the human genome as well as contributing the annotation of eight haplotypes of the human MHC region to the international HapMap project.Skills: Rare Disease Biology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Evolution, Database Curation, Biological Reporting Standards, Genomic Annotation, Biocuration, Phylogenetics, Biostatistics and general Computational Biology.
