About Richard Prior

I am an accomplished health care professional with a unique combination of experience as a senior nursing executive and Family Nurse Practitioner. I try to maintain this balance (working in both strategic and hands-on roles) so I never lose sight of the joys, pressures, and challenges that exist at all levels of a health care organization. My career spans more than 25 years with the United States Army. I advanced to the rank of Colonel and am currently the only Fellow, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) on Active Duty in the Army.Throughout my experience, however, I have led and restructured workforces consisting of both civilian and military personnel. I have developed innovative programs, restructured operations, and inspired multidisciplinary staff in inpatient / outpatient and operative nursing services, pharmacy, quality management, preventive medicine, laboratory services, radiology, quality management, and staff education.Because of my history in ambulatory and inpatient health care settings, my background is aligned with senior leadership positions for convenient care organizations, and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) roles in hospital environments. A few qualifications:► One of only three Army Family Nurse Practitioners to serve as Chief Nursing Officer at the same time.► Proven expertise restructuring and realigning operations, organizations, and teams to cut costs, improve performance, and improve quality and safety culture.► Led two separate facilities through highly successful Joint Commission surveys.► In addition to serving as a hands-on and strategic leader, I maintained an active FNP practice, researched and authored 10 peer-reviewed publications, and lectured nationally and internationally.► People-focused, lead-from-the-front management style.
