The Branch Head for Surface Combatants serves as the principal manager for the Navy’s Surface Combatant portfolio, overseeing high-profile shipbuilding programs including the DDG 51 Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), Constellation-class Frigate, Polar Security Cutter, DDG 1000 Zumwalt-class destroyer, and the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Multi-Mission Surface Combatant (MMSC) program.This role requires the strategic management of programs across diverse stages of their lifecycles, from early development and first-of-class challenges to mature production and delivery. Key responsibilities include optimizing production and expanding industrial base capacity for the DDG 51 program, executing difficult program restructuring initiatives for the Constellation-class Frigate and Polar Security Cutter, and resolving complex first-of-class issues within the MMSC program.As a leader, the Branch Head collaborates extensively with senior Department of the Navy civilian and military leadership to craft policies and strategies that drive program execution and ensure alignment with national defense priorities.
