Richard bridges the gap between cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence and its application in the domain of financial markets leveraging his professional experience in the financial industry and academic research in AI. Richard hails from MIT Media Lab where his research focus was in computational models of common sense ethical decision making for development of ethical AI. He played an integral role in the analysis of data from the Moral Machine platform - a large-scale online experiment for the study of human preferences in ethical decision making with the purpose of designing common sense ethical AI in autonomous vehicles. The online platform had over 5 million visitors worldwide, and analysis of its data led to an influential article in Nature, “The Moral Machine Experiment." Prior to academia, Richard served as one of the early founding members of del Rey Global Investors, LLC, a Los Angeles based investment management company with a focus in international equity, which managed up to four billion dollars in investments. As an equity research analyst, Richard expanded coverage of Japanese equity markets at del Rey using his experience as an investment banking analyst in Tokyo, Japan. Through his experience in del Rey, Richard not only gained knowledge of the financial markets and complex valuation models but also a deep insight into the workflow of portfolio managers and research analysts.
