My freelance Web, Motion and Graphic Design business has been an ongoing source of interesting projects since I first put it online back in 1999.

Main designer on two cloud-based products. Created wireframes, high-fidelity screens, flows, icons and research findings for user insights. * Launched cloud applications including Location Intelligence and Reporting. New features improved analysis for hundreds of users. * Led 2 successful UX Labs at Inspire ‘23 and ‘24. Tested prototypes and live site with over 30 users. Presented research findings yielding dozens of direct improvements to cloud apps. * Contributed to the Alteryx ONYX design system making the UX team more efficient. Found and helped fix a Figma auto-layout bug affecting many design system components.

Second designer hired for newly-formed UX team. Strived to integrate design thinking and usability testing through collaboration with other teams: product, dev, engineering and marketing. Created wireframes, hi-fi screens, flows, icons, front-end HTML, CSS, JS and documentation standards. * Launched a new version of the Garmin Connect IQ mobile app with improved Information Architecture raising reviews above 4 stars. * Designed display of new mountain bike metrics Grit and Flow for the release of the Edge 530 and 830 devices. * Contributed to the design system in Sketch and later Figma. * Implemented CMS for marketing pages allowing easier editing of content. * Designed and maintained developer portal pages with help and information for those interested in creating apps for devices. * Launched opencaching.com with ranked and searchable geocaching resources for thousands of registered users at its peak. * Wrote, launched and coordinated releases of HTML, CSS and JS for the global header/menu used by millions of visitors for many years. * Launched online shop with improved categories and faceted search which facilitated hundreds of thousands of purchases in the first 3 years.

Assist with presenting and organizing some aspects of this user group.

First in-house designer hired to redesign the website and quoting experience. * Designed updated public-facing website working directly with owner of the company. * Improved code of the main site and the quote request forms for thousands of freight shippers every day. * Worked closely with dev team to code and manage releases of HTML and CSS and JS. * Principal designer on “internal startup” FreightView which grew using human-centered design methods into a powerful tool for intermodal freight shipping. * Optimized internal sales tools using user observation methods which saved time and frustration daily for hundreds on the sales team.

Small but mighty ad agency serving clients in the midwest. * Created custom designs for sites in the HomeServices network owned by Berkshire Hathaway serving thousands of home searchers every day. * Created interactive Flash, CD-ROM and DVD content for companies like Valmont, Kiewit and the Upstream Brewing Company.
