CEO at MaST, reporting directly to the Board of Trustees. Responsibility for program development, admissions and enrollment, fundraising, communications, faculty and staff hiring and firing, maintenance and improvement of physical plant, curriculum development, community outreach, and local, state, and national association relationships. Responsible for compliance with all school district, state, and federal policies and statutes as related to charter schools.Selected Enterprise Impacts: Created first-ever Admin Team, a collaborative group approach to institutional management. Conceived, wrote, & produced school's first building-related fundraising campaign (Hall of Honor Campaign).Facilitation of Development Committee.Conceived & drafted plan for School's first annual giving campaign.Instituted Chinese language program, making connection to Hanban (Chinese government agency supporting Chinese language study internationally). Using Hanban's resources & support of NAIS, identified & hired young teacher of Chinese-as-a-foreign language for school year 2010-11.Working with school administrators & architect, developed new plans & refined existing plans for School's proposed 27,000 sq ft Library, Technology, & Media Center.Identified & pulled-together interior and furniture design team for new Library, Technology, & Media Center.Addressed necessary teacher assignment changes at Elementary School. Addressed classroom relocations for 6th grade & High School classes. Result was creation of a Place of Their Own for Middle School (6-8) & a separate, two-story space for High School.

Head of School (functioned as the chief executive officer). Reported directly to the Board of Trustees. Full responsibility for program development, admissions and enrollment, financial oversight, fundraising, development, and communications, faculty and staff hiring and firing, maintenance and improvement of physical plant, curriculum development, community outreach and relationships, local, state, and national association relationships. Selected Enterprise Impacts (Fundraising and Business Development, Enrollment and Diversity):Created budget surplus of $500K in FY08. In FY03, raised $700K for organization that never raised more than $350K in annual giving. FY03 started a 6 year run of surplus operating budgets. Worked with CFO to reduce expenditures in non-academic areas and recast operating fund goals to include formerly excluded 1.5M annual bond payment. Secured $1.8M building grant from national foundation (in close collaboration with Director of Development), receiving $300K more than requested, and $1,600,000 more than the largest previous grant to the school. Expanded economic diversity of student body by factor of three, increasing financial aid from $300K to $1.5M.

Managed administration and faculty, program, budget, development and communications, plant and facilities, and enrollment. Support from the Assistant Head, the Development Director, the Admissions Director, the Business Manager, and the Class Deans were also crucial to our success.Selected Enterprise Impacts (Fundraising and Business Development, Thought Leadership, Program and Project Leadership - Expansion, Enrollment and Diversity):Increased annual giving from $350K to $1M over eight year period. Worked closely with Board and led multiple Capital Campaigns, eliminating former $2M rollover deficit and raised an $8,000,000+ first-ever endowment fund. Doubled dance and theatre performances and increased program enrollment by 50%, by initiating and leading the transformation of underutilized space into full size dance studio and reversing a hillside to create outdoor amphitheatre. Used negotiating ability to secure city permission to construct superior space for Music and Fine Arts program. Program enrollments doubled over five years. Built state-of-the-art classrooms with Internet access. Effort successfully overcame local resistence to build architecturally significant building. Early adopter of Internet; seized opportunity to wire all classrooms in new building for laptop and smartboard usage, sensing that the Internet would have tremendous positive impact on education. Co-founded “Making Waves” public school program, serving at-risk 5th and 6th graders in two counties. Raised all funds for program the first three years. Program continues to serve approximately 1,000 students, in grades 5-8.
