I have had the good fortune to experience a broad range of consumer and b-to-b businesses; both manufacturing and services. More importantly, I have had the opportunity to walk with leaders who have taught me to be thoughtful, logical and results-driven in my approach to making business decisions. Because of that, I have made a difference in every business/team that I have been fortunate enough to be a part of. At a early point in my career one of my mentors told me "never forget that you are a doer". I never have and I understand now more than ever what that means. Success comes by being active, pushing, thinking of what's next. You can never be satisfied, and you can never get caught with your foot off the gas. Although cultural dynamics and organizational landscapes change, I am proud that I can look at my record of achievement and know that those words have not been lost to me and that I have always made a difference. Most of that difference is making decisions based on data, on facts, not anecdotal information, not opinions. I am just as good at trusting as I am at verifying. Something one of my professors at Case one told us has always stuck with me, what you decide should be 50% information-based, and the rest what you feel in your gut. I have always had the ability to balance both, to "be where my feet are". My business achievements mirror that. It is never lost on me that customer's and associates feel/experience the exceptions, the tails of the normal curve. One of our primary jobs as leaders is to mitigate the exceptions, eliminate them where possible - work toward ever elusive execution. My goals are simple: work hard on behalf of my team, my peers and my share holders, and expect more of myself than anyone else does. Never be complacent and always strive to improve myself and my team.
