Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institutehttps://schramek.lunenfeld.ca/The Schramek Lab uses ultra-sound guided in utereo injections of lentiviral RNAi and CRISPR libraries to elucidate genes responsible for tumor formations and to screen for potential cancer therapeutic targets.My role as a Veterinary Technologist includes performing ultra-sound, microinjections and survival surgeries on rodents. I am also involved in viral production, tissue staining, and RT-PCR.

Dr. Carolyn Cummins' lab, Faculty of Pharmacy, Leslie Dan Buildinghttps://www.cumminslab.com/This is a diabetes lab, investigating the role of Liver X Receptors in the development of diabetes, with Dr. Carolyn Cummins (Principal Investigator) at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto. I am knowledgable in multiple molecular biology techniques, and I also provide technical training to new students using to our 7900HT QPCR machine. Additional duties that I performed:• examining the role of nuclear receptors (LXRs) in diabetes and obesity• handling and caring for mice (main model organism of study) and rats • ensuring the proper documentation of the entire colony (20 strains of mice)• weaning new litters, setting up breeding pairs to maintain colony survival• genotyping by PCR, ear notch, tail clip• collecting blood samples and measuring metabolic parameters (IPGTT, ITT)• performing surgeries and post-operative care (model organism)• training and supervising students on the basic molecular biology techniques• ensuring lab in compliance to animal, radiation, chemical and biosafety• ordering supplies, assembling invoices and packaging slips • act as a liaison between the lab and biotechnology company representatives
