• Delivered Annual Select Agent Refresher Training to all individuals in The University of Chicago Biological Select Agents and Toxins Program
• Develop and maintain a pool of 150 questions for biosafety training modules to assess knowledge and understanding of students

• Determined the role of the Caulobacter crescentus PhyK/PhyR two-component system, the anti-σ factor NepR, and the photosensory LovK/LovR two-component system in stress response
• Identified a possible mechanism of cross-talk between the LovK/LovR and PhyK/PhyR two-component systems and subsequent ability to tune stress response in C. crescentus
• Determined the role of σRpoE1 and NepR in general stress response in the select agent, Risk Group 3 pathogen Brucella abortus
• Confirmed the dependence of B. abortus phyR transcription on σRpoE1
• Worked collaboratively to determine the role of σRpoE1 in establishing a chronic infection in a mouse model
• Worked collaboratively with coworkers, members of the GLRCE, Office of Biological Safety, and the IBC to establish current SOPs for Brucellae work at BSL-3
