Since September 2009 in Carson City, managed and conducted quarterly groundwater and domestic well monitoring activities at a former copper mine in Yerington, NV from which a groundwater contaminant plume extends off-site into a residential area. Activities included monthly water level measurements and quarterly sampling of 300+ monitoring wells using low-flow methods, and quarterly/semi-annual sampling of 160+ domestic wells. Coordinated with a multi-office project team to prepare quarterly and annual reports summarizing the results of each program for EPA submittal, coordinated with and oversaw the client’s laboratories, prepared budgets totaling over $3 million annually, mentored and oversaw activities of project team, assisted in project management activities required by the client, conducted litigation support activities for the client’s legal team, directly interfaced with residences located within the litigation area, and provided detailed QA review of Work Plans and reports for other project activities for submittal to EPA. Also, oversaw the Bottled Water Program and coordinated with the 200+ residences participating in the Program.In the Dublin office, assisted with ISO 14000 activities at a steel facility in Ohio for an international steel company, including site visits, employee interviews, and audit report preparation. Conducted Phase I ESA activities at a former Air Force base in Ohio for an international courier company, conducted groundwater sampling activities at a closed landfill in Ohio, prepared a groundwater monitoring plan for the inactive portion of a county landfill in Ohio, assisted in preparation of annual report for a closed waste impoundment in Mississippi, conducted well abandonment activities at a former facility in Wisconsin, and entered historical chemical data into a database and conducted well installation activities in wetlands at a former chemical plant impacted by chlorinated solvents slated for redevelopment in New Jersey.

As the Ohio EPA Certified Professional (CP) of record, managed and/or conducted activities under Ohio EPA’s Voluntary Action Program (VAP) at four properties including the redevelopment of a former scrap facility and rail yard in downtown Cincinnati for commercial use that was funded by a $3 million Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund (CORF) grant, and an active metal parts fabrication facility impacted by chlorinated solvents in Sidney, Ohio. Managed and conducted wastewater pond closure activities for an international food and beverage corporation at a former facility in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Prepared a Remedial Investigation (RI) Work Plan for a former rubber facility, and a Work Plan for a hydrogeologic investigation to site a deep water supply well on a former gasoline station with shallow impacted groundwater for Ohio EPA review and approval. Conducted a Site Characterization of two proposed Construction and Demolition Debris (C&DD) landfill sites in eastern Ohio including borehole drilling and well installation activities, and preparation of Site Characterization Report and Groundwater Monitoring Well System Plan.

Managed and conducted Phase I and/or II environmental assessments at over forty facilities throughout New England, including a Phase I-Initial Site Investigation, an Immediate Response Action (IRA), Release Abatement Measures (RAMs), and Phase II-Comprehensive Site Assessments under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP). As part of a supplemental EIS, conducted an environmental investigation along a highway corridor adjacent to a Superfund site in Vermont. Removed USTs; excavated and recycled/disposed soil impacted by petroleum, lead, PCBs, or PAHs; removed drums, asbestos-containing material, and solid waste from an area adjacent to wetlands; installed groundwater monitoring wells; excavated test pits; and collected soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and transformer oil samples. Prepared Work Plans and Reports for submittal to the appropriate regulatory authority. Provided expert opinion for litigation support on environmental aspects of three sites including site hydrogeology, contaminant sources, extent of contamination, and contaminant fate and transport. Prepared portions of the design and cost estimation of a groundwater extraction and shallow tray aerator treatment system to remediate contaminated groundwater at a former gasoline station and adjacent property.

Managed and conducted RI/FS activities at sites in eastern Ohio for an industrial client that was subject to litigation under a class action suit and in southern Ohio for the U.S. EPA Region V. Installed and sampled groundwater monitoring wells; excavated test pits; collected surface and borehole soil, test pit material, surface water, seep, sediment, and residential well samples; performed slug tests; prepared an RI Work Plan Documents Package, QAPP, and RI reports; and assisted in the preparation of a Risk Assessment, an Alternatives Array, and an FS report. Answered technical questions during a contentious public meeting and prepared a Responsiveness Summary to address public comments on the project documents.Managed and conducted investigations and assessments at numerous sites to determine whether and to what extent petroleum hydrocarbons had been released to soil and/or groundwater from UST systems. Installed groundwater monitoring wells and collected samples of groundwater, soil, and surface water. Prepared Work Plans and/or reports for each phase of the investigations for state regulatory review and approval.As project manager and technical leader on various projects, designed, prepared cost estimates for, and oversaw the installation of appropriate treatment systems for the remediation of petroleum-contaminated groundwater and/or soil, and the recovery of free-phase hydrocarbons from groundwater. Treatment systems included packed tower air strippers, shallow tray aerators, oil/water separator tanks, carbon adsorption units, infiltration galleries, and soil vapor extraction systems. Evaluated appropriate treatment technologies for the remediation of groundwater contaminated with chlorinated hydrocarbons.Managed and conducted RCRA activities including RFAs and CMEs for U.S. EPA Regions V and VIII, and RCRA and CERCLA oversight for U.S. EPA Region V at several sites.

Developed instructions and forms for the Technical Database (TDB) to document geologic and hydrogeologic parameters collected at the study site in Texas. ONWI project involved the characterization of candidate sites in different geologic media for potential siting of a high-level nuclear waste repository.
