Responsible for a Technical team, managing a three tier (Specification, Qualification, and Verification) waste acceptance system and technical support to BNFL Waste Treatment Plants, Drigg and a UK wide waste generating customer base, both internal & external to BNFL.Acquired a high degree of expertise in the field of UK LLW practices and as such was consulted nationally on LLW characterisation, acceptance, processing and decommissioning issues, as well as Hazardous Wastes. This expertise also included advice on analysis, minimisation, segregation and free release. This consultation enabled many “problem” wastes to be successfully characterised and delivered within the acceptance envelope.Responsible for and managed the Drigg “LLW Conditions for Acceptance” (CFA), ensuring it remained relevant to the Operational, Regulatory and Safety Case envelope. Through this, managed integrated LLW strategies, waste evaluation, fingerprinting and acceptability, Inventory and arisings assessments, new technology assessment/implementation, ensured that BPEO & BPM was applied to disposals, sustaining Drigg as a national asset.
