His career has seen him take on diverse roles, from design management of multi-discipline engineering projects to leading mechanical services design, verification and checking.Rob’s journey into mechanical engineering began with a hands-on trade background, which instilled in him a practical understanding of the challenges in implementing engineering designs. This foundation has been integral to his ability to develop practical, economical solutions that meet client needs across various sectors, including transport, infrastructure, industrial, data centres, commercial offices, retail, entertainment, healthcare, education, hotels and residential projects. He has also been involved in the design of fire and life safety systems, ensuring that projects meet stringent safety standards.His current responsibilities include client consultation, business development, design management, project coordination and the development of concept and schematic designs for major projects, ensuring that each phase of design and documentation aligns with the agreed criteria.Rob is also known for his commitment to mentoring young engineers, fostering a culture of honesty, integrity and thoroughness. Rob was a mechanical design engineer at Hyder Consulting (formrly Acer Wargon Chapman, and now Arcadis), involved in all aspects of mechanical services and tunnel ventilation analysis and design for a range of road, rail, airport and utility infrastructure projects, and retail fitouts. His experience included a secondment to the Hyder Hong Kong office for 9 months in 1998, where he was involved in the design of the mechanical services for a major mass transit rail project.

Employed initially as a Cadet Engineer, Rob undertook his mechanical engineering degree part-time for six years while working full time for aerospace component manufacturing and maintenance company, Hawker De Havilland (now Boeing).Rob's undergraduate experience included spending the first three years at the shop floor level as a tradesman’s assistant in the maintenance department, and in the various metal and composite aircraft component production and assembly departments of the company. The following three years were spent in the production planning and engineering support offices associated with these divisions.
