I started my nearly 33 year career in high school working for a computer company learning as much as possible. I then opened my own customer focused company providing custom workstations, servers, and network installations. As I continued my professional development, I realized I needed broader experience and went to work for SIRSI Corporation. I supported about two dozen flavors of UNIX and numerous hardware platforms while there. This lead me to CACI where I managed Solaris, Indigo, Macintosh, and Windows platforms along with Ungermann Bass, GatorStar and Cisco network hardware for GBI. As the office grew from 30 to 130+ users, security of the network became a concern. This led me to the CISCO and ISC2 certifications, network management software and living documents which included full hardware specifications and functions along with standard operating procedures for every process, function, and requirement.Over the past 15+ years, I have expanded and honed my network security skills while maintaining my server/workstation skill set supporting GMD, A&EC, several medical and manufacturing facilities, and the US Army SMDC/ARSTRAT. Each position was chosen to expand my skill set in new and exciting directions while providing much needed capability to the customers. I believe, that in order to properly secure a network, one must understand the hardware, software, and data which passes across it.As the infrastructure lead and network architect for a functional DOIM, I have a small team that manages an enterprise LAN/MAN/WAN environment spanning the globe. We have successfully passed multiple inspections with no CAT I or II infrastructure findings. I am constantly searching for unique security solutions to allow everyone to function while maintaining a secure environment on multiple networks. When every implementation has the potential to impact thousands of personnel ... and/or their families, decisions must be well thought out, documented, and implemented properly.
