It Computer Programmer/Analyst
For the last seventeen years of my Army career, I worked in a UNIX environment programming ANSI C against Oracle databases. Our data processing center had two HP 9000 K Class computers (HP-UX) with Oracle. I wrote SQL Cursors and fetched statements in my ANSI C programs; data was put to flat files. Depending on the Battalion or Brigade business needs, I would use the AWK utility to further manipulate the data for the prescribed business requirements. This data was then imported into Excel Spreadsheets for Battalion and Brigade use in their reporting activities. I further used PL/SQL during this time in writing quick queries for data extract. For our Army unit’s unique requirements, data extracts were gotten from our Logistics, Fiscal, Personnel, and Military Pay databases.
