While at Beck Redden, I focused my practice on complex commercial litigation, representing plaintiffs and defendants in all manner of civil disputes. My representative matters included the following:* Represented a Korean valve-manufacturer in a three-and-a-half week jury trial in which the plaintiff sought over $54 million in damages stemming from a refinery fire in Valdez, Alaska. I managed all aspects of pretrial and expert discovery, deposed several key witnesses including the refinery's maintenance director, principally authored the dispositive motions, and cross-examined several key witnesses at trial, including the plaintiff's cause & origin and damages experts. The jury returned a full defense verdict.*Represented a diversified general contractor in a $30-plus million claim for nonpayment against a project owner stemming from the construction of a pair of gas plants in southeastern Louisiana. I successfully briefed and argued several dispositive motions in the lead-up to trial and helped manage pretrial discovery. The case settled on the eve of trial.*Represented a Yale researcher in defending against a breach-of-contract claim that he failed to pay a Texas vendor for certain goods and services. I successfully briefed and argued a special appearance, convincing the Court to dismiss the case for lack of jurisdiction.

Prepared bench memoranda and draft opinions. Most notably, I assisted my judge with a multi-million dollar employment discrimination suit that the EEOC filed against one of the country's largest interstate trucking companies; a constitutional challenge to a state law limiting political speech; and a multi-million dollar suit that a master lessor asserted against an investment consortium of tenants-in-common.

El Paso, Texas

Prepared draft opinions, bench memoranda, and jury charges. Most notably, I assisted my judge with a six-week jury trial involving a False Claims Act qui tam action in which the relator sought $376 million in damages from one of the nation's largest outpatient-dialysis providers for alleged Medicare fraud.
